FROM THE HEADMASTER'S DESK

Dear Parents

Wednesday 12 January 2022, being the first day of our school year for pupils – and the first day of ‘big school’ and ‘bigger school’ for the Grade 1s and Grade 8s respectively – means that the College grounds have been absolutely buzzing this week. What a wonderful experience to move around the school on Wednesday morning and witness the excitement… and the emotions… of pupils, parents and teachers.

On Monday 10 January, we acknowledged the following new teachers in our staff meeting:

  • Miss Donné de Vries - English - Grades 10 – 12

  • Mr David Jacobs - Business Studies - Grades 10 – 12

  • Miss Beth van Onselen - Intern - Foundation Phase

I now take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to all of our parents.  Schedules have been conveyed and routines have been established. 2022, here we come …

A few quick flash cards as a point of departure for the year:

  • We are excited about a full sport and extra-curricular programme this term. The details of practices and fixtures have been published.

  • All Covid protocols, as at the end of last year, are still in place – until otherwise promulgated and gazetted by the Department of Education (DBE).

ISASA continues to seek clarity on aspects voiced by experts through the media and we will keep you informed – and adjust protocols accordingly.

For now, the most significant reminders regarding school protocols are:

  • Wearing masks, screening, and social distancing (1m) are still compulsory.

  • Spectators are allowed at sport, co-curricular, and general school meetings and events, subject to compliance with the social distancing, hygiene and safety measures set out in the DBE Standard Operating Procedures documentation.

  • Isolation and/or quarantine is still 10 days from onset of symptoms and direct contacts are still required to isolate.

  • Any further concerns or queries may be directed to Mrs Loshinee Moodley (Reception), Mr Barry Picton (Covid Compliance Officer), or Mr Wayne Rademan (Headmaster).

We are aware of the frustration being experienced in purchasing uniforms etc. from Kenart.  Please be assured that we are working on a short and long-term solution to this supply problem.

Ms Laurie Smith has been ill with Covid but will be back at school from Monday 17 January. All aspects of Marketing and Admissions will thus be back up to full capacity from next week.

I close with a quote by B.B. King: The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.
