Dear Parents
As the dust settles on a frenetic, yet rewarding opening half of Term 3, I take this opportunity to close the book on Eisteddfod 2024.
While we were caught a little off guard by the number of participants, particularly as far as the Dance category is concerned, I am still pleased that we managed to host an extremely successful Zululand Eisteddfod. We will most definitely have a contingency plan in place with regard to parking next time around.
Closer to home, our very own Felixtonians, (Grades R – 12) got to strut and fret their ‘hours’ upon the stage – and they did their school, their families, and themselves PROUD!
I am a little overwhelmed (pleasantly so) as I reflect on just how talented our pupils are. To see them get their moments to shine in the Cultural arena, and the pride not only their faces, but especially on the faces of their peers, siblings, parents, grandparents, and guardians, was nothing short of an
absolute privilege to behold.
Congratulations to all of our pupils who were brave enough to participate, and thank you to all parents, on behalf of the school and your children, for the work that went on in the background to ensure that these performances were possible in the first place.
From scheduling lives around transport logistics, and patiently fine-tuning technique, to enduring anxious outbursts (in true drama student style) and rehearsals in the lounge, your support is appreciated.
With regard to input from our Felixton College staff, Mrs Roné Jacobs is acknowledged for her role at the helm of organising the Eisteddfod. Mrs Bridget Picton, Mrs Faye Mitchley, Mrs Chantelle Cronje, and Miss Sarah Claassen, have also contributed significantly to the success of the event, and pupil performances. The Junior School tutor teachers deserve praise for their roles in preparing their classes for the excellent poetry recitals.
In closing, we were enthralled by the presence of Mrs Delia Sainsbury in her capacity as adjudicator. She engaged wonderfully with performers and audience alike, and we are grateful to have been able to enjoy her presence at our school. She heads up the Waterfront Theatre School in Cape Town and who knows, perhaps we will have a few of our talented Felixton College performers making their way into the ‘stars and lights’ through that avenue – having been spotted here first.
I wish all families well as we move into the business end of the term, shifting gears into Academic mode with fewer distractions.
Kind regards
Wayne Rademan
