NEWSLETTER 6/2022

Dear Parents

We celebrated the end of Term 1 by bragging about finally being able to enjoy in-person classroom engagement without social distancing, full sets of sport fixtures (with spectators), implementation of cultural programmes, and the opportunities to host social events, gatherings and functions.

While still enjoying the above-mentioned niceties of life, I am now also ecstatically announcing that as of today, masks are no longer mandatory at school. While many of us may be excited, we are fully aware that there will be some apprehension, anxiety and legitimate fear regarding the latest adjustments to Covid protocols. To this end, please note that while masks are no longer mandatory, those who feel safer wearing them are encouraged to do so.

Sadly, we bade farewell today to Mr Sisanda Ngidi (who heads up to Gauteng to take up a music post at Roedean) and Mr Trevor Kietzmann (who heads down the coast to join his family in the big city lights of Ballito). Both young men have wonderful opportunities ahead of them and we wish them all the best as they head out of Zululand. Each of them made impacts on the lives of the youngsters with whom they engaged in all spheres of school life and they will be missed. Fittingly, both were given a wonderful send-off today by a Junior School flash mob.

In closing, we have had the most amazing last day of Term 2. From the fun Junior School staff versus Grade 7s sport fixtures (won by the staff), to the High School Staff (who will now, undoubtedly, be hunted by talent scouts) entertaining the pupils with unbridled acting panache on stage, and not forgetting the braai and sleepover at Roots last night, there will be smiles for days – pupils and teachers alike.

Until we see each other for an action-packed Term 3, full of academic commitments, sport fixtures, cultural activities and service projects, please enjoy the holiday with your loved ones and stay safe.

Kind Regards
Wayde Rademan
